A bioblitz is a citizen science project where experts and amateurs gather to record as many species as possible at a location in a designated amount of time. No experience necessary- just come with some curiosity.
Know Your Watershed will hold 5 bioblitzes between March 31 and April 30: 1 in the Bear, 2 in the American, and 2 in the Yuba River watersheds. Details about each event can be found in the Events Calendar.
We will be using the INaturalist app www.inaturalist.org (and available at any app stores) for devices to catalogue each species that we find. When you photograph the species, INaturalist automatically adds the species to the existing projects we have for each watershed. Of course, using the app is entirely optional and a pad and pencil is just as useful. Or just come for the fun. However, if you choose to use the app, we suggest you download it to your device before you get to the site since these canyons have bad reception and it takes time to load. We will also give you the name of the project that you can add to your “List of projects”.
