Kayak Paddle Camp Far West Reservoir
April 26 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm$15
Camp Far West is a large, scenic lake located where the Bear River transitions from a narrow, rugged watershed to openness of the valley. It’s a great local paddle this time of year, having been filled by winter rains and before the power boats take over. Lots of interesting history, inlets, oak-studded hills, bird life, and the opportunity to paddle three counties. We’ll paddle to where the Bear River enters, a scenic and rocky canyon approximately five miles from our put-in. Bring lunch and water for a land break during the paddling trip. Give some thought to your footprint upon the watershed along our journey!
Plan on approx 10 miles of calm water paddling at a moderate pace. The distance covered makes this paddle inappropriate for brand new paddlers or boats less than 13 feet in length. Paddlers are 18 years or older. For safety, boats must also have watertight compartments. The Scotts Flat paddle on April 20th might be better for newer paddlers, though reach out if you have a question as to fit for you. We want to stick together as a group, staying safe and happy.
Please respond to Wendy at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to participate in this event or have any questions. Directions and further information will then be provided. As a point of reference, drive time is approx 45 minutes west from Grass Valley/Nevada City. Launch at 10AM, so get there at least 30 minutes prior. Participants must sign a liability waiver and wear a PFD/lifejacket. Resort entry fee applies ($15 per vehicle plus $2 per kayak).
