Geology of the Foothills Hike

April 13 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Come “rock on” with us Saturday, April 13 at 9:00am for a special hike focusing on the GEOLOGY of the foothills. At our Big Hill Preserves you’ll see the gently flowing Raccoon Creek, spectacular panoramic views of the Sierra Nevada foothills and Sacramento Valley and ROCKS – there are amazing and abundant rock formations! This hike has become one of our most popular and fills up fast.

Docents Karl Mertz, Sarah Roeske, and Bob Niblack are trained geologists. Karl is a retired geology professor from Sac State & Sierra College. Sarah teaches and does research at UC Davis with a focus on fault zones. Bob worked for the Department of Water Resources as a hydro-geologist. Together, these docents have many years of experience and have amazing knowledge to share with you.
